NSW has experienced yet another consecutive month of record housing approvals with more than 71,600 residential buildings approved in 2016-17, according to the latest data from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today.
Planning and Housing Minister, Anthony Roberts, said NSW building approvals are the highest in the country.
“NSW has been leading the country in new approvals for 20 consecutive months, continuing to exceed our State target of 50,000,” Mr Roberts said.
“The consistent record approval figures over the last few years clearly show the NSW Government is getting on with the job of delivering more homes across the State.
“This Government is focused on ensuring that home ownership is a reality for everyone who wishes to purchase their own home in this great State.”
Annual housing approvals have more than doubled since the Liberals & Nationals Government took office, with more homes under construction than in any other state in Australia.
“This consistently high level of housing approvals shows that this Government is serious about getting more homes on the market and tackling housing affordability,” Mr Roberts said.
